I'm in the middle of a craft drought. It's because I'm dog sitting for my parents, so I'm not in my house with my stash or my craft room.
I decided to write about a "flashback" project though. This is the first quilt I made. I was in high school when I started and college when I finished. The pattern is Grandmother's Fan and I drooled over the pattern for a looong time before I went through with it.
Each square is quilted with a rose pattern. You can see my quilting progress in the different squares. When I started, the stitches were big like this:
When I ended, my technique was better and the stitches looked like this:
There was a LOT of hand quilting to that baby! The bed in the picture is mine when I lived with my parents. My uncle made it. My dad made me a desk which I'll have to photograph someday!
Here's some parting shots of the reason why I'm in craft drought:
She really REALLY loves teddy bears. And attention. And dislikes laptops. My poor husband was trying to do schoolwork. NOT allowed!
The pretty girl!
Oh, but she is just so cute. I wouldn't be able to resist either!
ReplyDeleteYep, she's a pretty girl alright! The fact that she loves teddy bears makes her extra special! :)
ReplyDeleteFor a beginner's work, your quilt looks amazing! It looks like a lot of hard work also. Wish I could create something like that.
wow, good job on the hand-quiting. what method do you use?
ReplyDeleteyou did a very nice job when you started quilting. I'm impressed....any other quilts since then?
Wow! That's quite a first quilt. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! My first quilt is still unfinished - I'm planning to pull it out and finish it by Christmas though. I did make one and finish it for my niece 3 years ago - but my very first quilt...haha, it's still in the tupperwear container -that I've been storing it in. That is a very pretty quilt you have there - brave to start with something like that uh? And the dog is so cute! I'd want her on my lap to keep me warm and then I'd never get anything done I'm sure. That's the way it was when I had my cat, but we couldn't bring Lilly to England, so she's with family for now. Anyway - sorry to ramble, great job!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm so impressed. My first quilt was just plain old squares. :) Beautiful job! And hi from a fellow Sew Craft Blogger.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is so impressive! The only quilt I've made is just two pieces of cloth, tied with yarn, and my mom helped quite a bit. :)
ReplyDeleteI thought your first quilt was the t-shirt quilt?
