EM:Chair Edition - Episode two

Well! I pulled staples out of that chair all. day. long. Apparently when you recover a chair, it's good to get one that is NOT well made. The well made ones just make it really difficult.
ONE pile of staples...

As you might know from Extreme Makeover: Home edition, things rarely go as planned. For my day's labor, the bottom, back, and part of one side are stripped. That is with my husband putting in a few hours after work!

I can, however, recommend tools from my experience. You will need a small screwdriver, a large screwdriver, and a sturdy pair of needle nose pliers.
Grace came over to check on my work. She doesn't approve of improvements that means she won't be able to sit on the furniture, so she's getting one last sit in here. My parents had her shaved for the summer. Sob! She doesn't look too bad in this picture, but she actually looks pretty hideous and not at all like herself. Poor baby!

End of day one (out of what seems like might be hundreds!)
Stay tuned tomorrow!

Craft Drought

I'm in the middle of a craft drought. It's because I'm dog sitting for my parents, so I'm not in my house with my stash or my craft room.

I decided to write about a "flashback" project though. This is the first quilt I made. I was in high school when I started and college when I finished. The pattern is Grandmother's Fan and I drooled over the pattern for a looong time before I went through with it.
Each square is quilted with a rose pattern. You can see my quilting progress in the different squares. When I started, the stitches were big like this:

When I ended, my technique was better and the stitches looked like this:
There was a LOT of hand quilting to that baby! The bed in the picture is mine when I lived with my parents. My uncle made it. My dad made me a desk which I'll have to photograph someday!

Here's some parting shots of the reason why I'm in craft drought:
She really REALLY loves teddy bears. And attention. And dislikes laptops. My poor husband was trying to do schoolwork. NOT allowed!

The pretty girl!

Twirling

The outfit I wore is a great twirling outfit. And what's the point of wearing skirts and dresses when you don't twirl??? I'm also a big fan of going down stairs wearing a poufy skirt. I love the effect of the POUF! That's my favorite part of being a girl!I promise that I do have 2 legs.
And for a clearer look at the outfit:Dress: Ann Taylor Loft
Sweater: My mom's closet
Necklace: My mom's jewelry box
Shoes: Mudd (I agree Shannon...Mudd has really cute styles!) from Macy's

For careful readers of my blog, you might realize that that's not my kitchen. I'm dog sitting for my parents - hence the stealing from my mom's closet! ;)
I miss stealing from my mom's closet and she misses stealing from mine!

Fashion week - Wednesday

I love mixing patterns - too much sometimes. When we have mix match day at school, most people come in wearing patterns that I would wear together normally!

Today I'm wearing a skirt from Ann Taylor Loft, a shirt from J. Crew, a sweater from Target, the floral shoes that I promised would return this week, and tights from the Gap.

Grace is wearing a collar from the Fashionable Friends line of dog collars that I make. ;)

Grace

Strangely, I'm not sure I've ever mentioned Grace on my blog before. She's my sister. She looks just like me - crazy blondeish hair (erm...fur) . Well, I guess come to think of it, her nose is a little longer and I don't have a tail.....

Here's some facts about Gracie Girl:
  • She loves Cheez its
  • She hates baths
  • She loves to swim in the pool
  • She hates getting on the scale to be weighed
  • She's afraid of wind
  • She's afraid of grass
  • She's afraid of rain
  • She's afraid of the dark
  • She's afraid of the vacuum
  • She's afraid of anything falling
  • She loves competitive sports - she will not fetch, but she will race you to the ball or play tug with you
  • She knows the names of all her toys
  • She loves her collars (Pretty Pretties) and she attacks you with kisses when you put her collar on her and she hears the "SNAP!"
  • She "noodles" when she hears the words "crate," "Q-Tip," "Bath" and "Scale" and "Weigh"(Definition of noodle: to lay down on ones back and relax every muscle in one's 70 pound body so that one is impossible to move)
  • She's been to the doggie cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and orthopedic surgeon
That's my Gracie Girl!

As an aside, I put some fashionable dog collars in the etsy shop! It's my secret endeavor..... I'll tell more later!
